Would love to be able to do freelance writing at home to supplement household income. Just knowing the ins and outs of what is expected of freelance writers would help a lot.

I've always had thoughts of doing freelance; that idea of being able to work from anywhere excites me. I love research. I love writing on various topics. My need is finding a niche or several niches of interest in which I can hone my craft and start trying to get work sold.

I am hoping to get my first query letters out by the end of this year. I only discovered my love of writing over this past year when I began my blog. I hope to learn how to jump into freelance writing and learn how to properly sell my writing.

Wow-I've heard both of these books are great! I'd love to read some of the less common tips for query letters because I don't feel like mine stand out enough. I started working full-time as a freelance writer two months ago and I love it! I'm doing better than I expected and am trying to learn as much as I possibly can. Thanks for the opportunity and I'm glad I found my way to your blog (through Bliss)

These books look like amazing resources for writers. I think the biggest thing I've learned as I struggle in my journey as a freelance writer is that this is not something that happens overnight. It is a step-by-step process and not every step is "fun". The rewards are not always immediate or tangible.

Blessings,

I want to learn the ins and outs of the business. And also, how to keep up with my friend Mary Smiling

These books are both on my wish list! It would be great to win them!

I'm working on a series of posts covering the lessons I've already learned at my writing blog (Write Out Loud), so I'll leave a lesson I hope to learn here in the comments.

I want to learn how to better manage the marketing side of my writing business. I'm slowly learning the ins and outs, but I'm much better at getting the job done than getting the job. Smiling

I've just started my freelance writing career and so there is a lot to learn! I've contracted some writing work, but want to do it full time. I do web development for a major trade mag publisher, and really need to learn more in order to write for them! Great contest...

When I got my first payment for writing (a very small $25 submitted quietly into my paypal account), I was in awe. For writing, I could get paid. For doing something I love and feel passionately about, I could actually contribute to keeping this family fed and clothed. I have heard your dream career is something you would do without pay anyway. Well, then, writing in some form or fashion clearly seems to be my dream career. (I have certainly written endlessly without one dime made and been a happy camper for it.) So, upon receiving that first $25, I thought to myself "my writing is actually valuable" and now want to figure out a way to carve out some kind of career with it. What a dream it would be for me to write-write-write from home and be able to be there for my kids when they get home from school. So, until my youngest is actually in school, it is my goal to build a resume and real experience so that I will be considered a viable, legit freelance writer by the time he heads out the door for his first day of school. Best of luck to all of us as we head down this road. It truly is an "adventure", Mary! Smiling
